Volunteer Opportunity - Silvopasture Orchard Care

Join us at GROW today to lend a hand in the silvopasture orchard! This area is tied to the "GROW goat project" and will soon have livestock animals at work in it!

The silvopasture orchard area demonstrates an intensive agroforestry method wherein production trees (such as those making fruits and nuts) are closely planted for succession crops. They are aligned in long straight rows with wide alleyways in between to allow room for grazing animals to work. These animals help maintain tall grass and provide important nutrients for the trees.

The end of the season means dormancy for trees is approaching. Our work in the silvopasture over the fall and winter months will be related to making adjustments to tree locations (moving trees), pruning, mulching, and preparing for next spring's new additions.

See you in the orchard!
